Following the Meron Disaster Investigative Committee report published recently, discussion of the subject is on the rise.
Adv. Baruch Katzman of our firm was a guest at the Channel 14 open studio, and referred to the ability and obligation of the judicial system to effect validation of the committee’s report: “Unfortunately, the reports are merely “recommendations” and lack acclaim. For genuine deterrence the courts need to impose dissuasive punishments – on both criminal and civilian aspects. The ruling of punitive compensation, for example, will constitute an effective dissuasive means that can reduce the cases of criminal negligence.”
