Maccabi Haifa Football Club, represented by Adv. Yaniv Dekel and Adv. Yishay Stepensky of our Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department, has filed a civil lawsuit in the amount of over NIS 1.7 million against individuals who disrupted the match against Maccabi Tel Aviv at the Teddy Stadium.
Approximately two months ago, during a match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Maccabi Haifa at the latter’s home stadium in Sammy Ofer, six individuals were observed in the Maccabi Haifa supporters’ section throwing flares. Their actions directly led to the abandonment of the match, resulting in a technical loss for Maccabi Haifa, a one-point deduction, significant fines, Israeli police-imposed security sanctions, and substantial reputational damage to the club.
Today, the club initiated civil proceedings against the perpetrators, claiming damages exceeding NIS 1.7 million.
The club is represented in this matter by Adv. Yaniv Dekel and Adv. Yishay Stepensky of our firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Department.
In an interview, Adv. Yaniv Dekel stated: “Football fans in Israel must understand that, in addition to the criminal proceedings handled by law enforcement, football clubs have the legal right to take civil action in order to eradicate such phenomena, and to hold individuals personally liable for the damages they cause. Maccabi Haifa is acting within its legal rights to protect the club, its vast fanbase, and the broader Israeli football community.”
