Adv. Oded Gross, a partner in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution department, participated in the Dun’s 100 forum of veterans in the field of commercial litigation, which was attended by partners from leading firms.
During the forum subjects on the legal system agenda were discussed, including the effects of new legislation and implementation of Civil Law Procedure Regulations, as well as assimilation of innovation and technology in legal services. When Adv. Gross was asked about working during a war, he related that “When the war broke out – in addition to the shock that we all experienced – we found ourselves with a heavy workload in the litigation department on the one hand, and on the other, scores of lawyers, male and female, recruited for reserve duty and scores of others left at home alone with small children, because their spouse had been called up.”
He also referred to the adaptations made by the legal system, and stated that “At this point, I think that the Justice Ministry understood the situation very quickly and within a few days published regulations for state of emergency that in fact suspended discussions and proceedings for periods of time to a conclusive period up to 30.11.23.
This time period certainly enabled us to prepare for the continuation of work under restrictions and in my opinion today, as a system, the court system is operating properly.
The situation obliges us to be updated at all times on all matters pertaining to ongoing legislation updates. I think that since the break out of war changes have been made in the schedules of at least 20 legislative matters, leading with, just recently, an amendment to the Statute of Limitations that in fact, adds a period of six months to the Statute of Limitations period. Just to clarify, this law has been changed very little since establishment of the state, and this is of course an expression of the event which are still in the midst of”.
Adv. Gross summarized and said that “If we are not on the front lines, it is our responsibility to make sure that the civil systems are functioning properly under the restrictions, and I think that in that respect, to date, this is most certainly the case.”
