Adv. Einav Cohen, joint head of the Municipal Taxation department, related in Globes to the issue of municipal taxes collected by the local authorities from residents:

“Liberties such as these, to whom discounts are to be given or not, cannot be given to the local government. It should be determined – in Israel there are things that are ‘sacred cows’, such as bereaved families and victims of terrorism. However in terms of discounts – authorities with low socio-economic rankings should be allowed to determine their own criteria for discounts, sanctioned of course by the Ministry of the Interior. This will enable them to raise more funds for their municipal services”.
